Four youths, including three minors, have been apprehended in connection with the gang-rape and murder of a teenage girl in Outer Delhi's Swaroop Nagar. The suspects were arrested within 72 hours of the victim's body being discovered in an open field, following a rigorous police investigation that relied heavily on extensive CCTV analysis.
The victim, reported by authorities to be between 16 and 17 years old, was a school dropout who had recently moved to Swaroop Nagar to find work and lived independently. Her highly decomposed and mutilated body was discovered on the morning of September 13 near an agricultural field along Kushak Road. Investigators noted that the remains had suffered extensive degradation from exposure to the elements and animal scavengers, which initially made it difficult for first responders to even ascertain the victim's gender.
Forensic and medical examinations subsequently confirmed the victim had been sexually assaulted and stabbed between six and eight times. Authorities formally registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of murder, rape, and the destruction of evidence.
According to police officials, the victim's parents had not filed a missing person complaint. Family members indicated that the teenager frequently left home for several days at a time, leaving them unaware that she was missing.
Facing a lack of eyewitnesses, a dedicated investigative team supervised by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Shobhit D. Saksena and Additional DCP Lokeshwaran R. analyzed footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras in the area. During this review, officers identified a goods-carrying tempo moving near the crime scene around the suspected time of the murder. Although darkness obscured the vehicle's registration plates, investigators successfully mapped its route across multiple camera locations and corroborated the timeline with local field inquiries.
The digital tracking culminated in a night-long search operation spanning September 15 and 16. Authorities located the suspected tempo parked in Swaroop Nagar's Khadda Colony. Questioning the vehicle's driver ultimately led to the identification and apprehension of the four suspects. The adult accused has been identified as 19-year-old Shivam, also known as Sudama, while the remaining three suspects are juveniles aged 16 and 17.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects and the victim were neighborhood acquaintances. While investigative sources provided slightly differing accounts of the group's exact dynamic—ranging from the victim meeting a specific 17-year-old friend to being in a relationship with Shivam—police confirmed that all five individuals knew one another. Authorities stated that the group met on the evening of September 12 and consumed alcohol inside the tempo.
The gathering turned violent when the victim was sexually assaulted. Police officials reported that after the teenager threatened to report the assault to authorities, the accused overpowered her, stabbed her multiple times, and dumped her body in the nearby field, attempting to conceal it under mud and leaves.
During police questioning, at least three of the suspects reportedly confessed to participating in the rape, while the fourth claimed he was only involved in the subsequent murder. Investigators are currently verifying these statements to establish the precise role each individual played.
Police have successfully recovered the tempo, the clothes worn by the accused at the time of the incident, and two knives allegedly used in the killing. Authorities confirmed that further investigation is ongoing, with recovered exhibits preserved for forensic examination to solidify the complete sequence of events.
